{"id":240,"date":"2010-05-21T15:15:48","date_gmt":"2010-05-21T19:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ammonsengineering.com\/blog\/?p=240"},"modified":"2010-05-24T15:26:24","modified_gmt":"2010-05-24T19:26:24","slug":"started-coding-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ammonsengineering.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/started-coding-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Started coding challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The coding challenge has officially started.\u00a0 All the rules are posted on the NI website here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/decibel.ni.com\/content\/message\/16920#16920\">http:\/\/decibel.ni.com\/content\/message\/16920#16920<\/a>.\u00a0 Entries have to be submitted by the Sunday before NI Week.<\/p>\n<p>The main challenge is to swing up the pendulum as quickly as possible and move to different points.\u00a0 Swinging it down is also a bit of a challenge, because if you don&#8217;t do anything to stop the swing it will swing for a long, long time.\u00a0 All the coding for the challenge will use the simulation model I created, but the winning entry will be implemented on the physical system.<\/p>\n<p>I am not going to talk about the challenge much here, but I will be involved in the official discussion on the NI website.\u00a0 I do encourage anybody that is interested to try the challenge.\u00a0 You get to play with LabVIEW and the Control Design and Simulation toolkit for free for a few months, and the winner gets a sbRIO evaluation kit, which is just like the sbRIO board I am using to run the pendulum.\u00a0 All entries that meet the requirements will get a cool prize too.\u00a0 We haven&#8217;t figured out exactly what the prize will be yet, though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The coding challenge has officially started.\u00a0 All the rules are posted on the NI website here:\u00a0http:\/\/decibel.ni.com\/content\/message\/16920#16920.\u00a0 Entries have to be submitted by the Sunday before NI Week.
