{"id":43,"date":"2009-10-26T20:00:02","date_gmt":"2009-10-27T01:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ammonsengineering.com\/blog\/?p=43"},"modified":"2009-12-05T00:08:23","modified_gmt":"2009-12-05T05:08:23","slug":"motor-cable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ammonsengineering.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/motor-cable\/","title":{"rendered":"Motor cable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Super Droid Robots replied to my email.\u00a0 They said to just order another motor wiring kit and ask for just four feet of cable instead of all the other stuff.\u00a0 Placed the order tonight.\u00a0 It is going to cost about the same to ship the cable as the cable itself.<\/p>\n<p>Stopped by Home Depot and picked up a nice black shelf to mount everything on for $9.\u00a0 It is 4 ft x 1 ft and just over 1\/2\u201d thick.\u00a0 The cart should be able to travel the entire length of the board, minus a small amount on each end for the shaft supports.\u00a0 The cart is about 7 inches deep, so that will leave about 5 inches at the back of the shelf for the power supply and sbRIO.\u00a0 The sbRIO will be a tight fit, but it might be able to squeeze under the slide unit.<\/p>\n<p>Picked up some shim foil that is 1\/1000\u201d thick to wrap around the motor shaft and tighten up the gear.\u00a0 Cut a narrow strip about 1\/2\u201d wide and wrapped three times around the shaft.\u00a0 Gear now fits perfectly with no wobble.<\/p>\n<p>Tested the encoders today.\u00a0 The two I thought were good worked perfectly with no problems.\u00a0 The one with the shaft that turns roughly doesn\u2019t have any signal, which doesn\u2019t surprise me.\u00a0 I guess the guy just threw it in with the others to get rid of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Super Droid Robots replied to my email.\u00a0 They said to just order another motor wiring kit and ask for just four feet of cable instead of all the other stuff.\u00a0 Placed the order tonight.\u00a0 It is going to cost about the same to ship the cable as the cable itself.
